Another one from myself 1/28/12

It seems by the comments to this part of the blog, that you guys are more fond of trying to rip me a new one than respond to my cover critiques, ha ha. But I can take it. Hell, I even agree with many of the comments. Maybe I should only post my own stuff from now on, just to give you guys a forum to give me your opinions. Nah, that's a horrible idea.

  1. What the fuck is this mess you call a cover. It is embarrassing and should be destroyed this very minute. Better yet, let me do it...just ship it between some sturdy boards to my home address and I will make sure it is properly destroyed. oh...make sure you bubble wrap the outside of the package and put it inside another box...I want to make sure it is protected and in perfect shape for when I take it out and destroy it by framing it behind museum glass in my living room

    For shame

  3. The only real comment I have to say is the perspective is a little weird at the bottom with his feet....although to be honest I really like this cover regardless. What I did like is that you put a slight bright illumination at the tip of the flamethrower, made the spewing flame that much better...if it was brighter I think it would have really popped out and then the linear shape of the weapon would have brought your eyes back to the main character, but that's just me being pedantic.

Can't wait to see and read more,
    Will.

  4. One thing I'd be tempted to try with this would be to pick out the BPRD soldier with white in the rim lighting, to make him pop forward, more on the same plane as the logo. But on the other hand, that might just fuck it up. It's very nice as is.

    1. White on the soldier is a really good idea. I think the layout and design of this cover is perfect, but something about the color is murky to me. Theoretically the soldier should stand out because of the black, but the burgundy background is too dark, so you lose the top half of the soldier. I'm also not sure if the soldier or the tentacles are supposed to be the main draw to the eyes.

I do really like the rendering style on the ground and trees.

  5. I think I would have preferred the BPRD soldier to have been walking away from the chaos as opposed to the just standing there. That's just a preference and not a criticism though.I don't know if the idea was the propoganda style cover or not. If that's the case then it's perfect.

  6. No surprise this is the favourite for comments. People love feeling like their opinion matters, and more'n the others this one actually calls for audience participation. I mean, I LOVE the wins/losses features but don't usually feel compelled to reply whereas I always like the challenge of trying to take a critical eye here, especially since I genuinely love your work. Admittedly, I always kind of worry about coming off like a dick when I chip in because any faults I find are usually very minor and again...big fan.

Man, I had a whole thing about the colour scheme here and how it bothered me, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. The two tone nature works really well to make the fire pop and it has a great propaganda feel. Upon further review, I can't not love it.

  8. I think it needs to have a few really hot looking chicks in skimpy clothing all over the place. You know, with their butts and boobs pushed so far out that it defies the laws of physics. THAT'S what makes a really good cover. Not all this "composition" and "art" that you keep using. Blech!

  9. You're right that is a horrible idea.

  10. No complaints, but I wonder how it would look if the house in the background was pushed back just a bit further. I think it would add in some more depth.

  11. The coloring is spot on, really gives the piece an atmosphere that says Russia to me, or at least what I think Russia is based on television and movies.
