Once again. Your turn to nit pick my work 1/21/12

Well, this came out a while ago, but they just re-solicited it for the trade. When they asked me to do the cover, all the direction I received was to draw a "Green Lantern ring with blood on it". I came up with idea to make the ring act like an actual lantern to add a little bit of drama. People seemed to dig it, but I'm sure you bastards will find something wrong with it, ha ha.

  1. That's great. But I'd say they put the DC logo in the wrong place.

    1. It was better in the original issue. Seen here:

    2. The DC logo's in a better place, yeah, but there's something about losing the frame and having the logo overlap part of the ring in the newer version that works really well, too.

  2. I think it's a pretty generic concept, but the execution is really great. It's dramatic, it's gritty, it's just well done overall.

I think that quote on the cover needs to go though. A)"Upcoming movie"? Heh. B) Even though the team who put this book together are clearly playing in his sandbox, Johns' didn't even write the Aftermath stories.

  3. Honestly, the only problem I have with this cover is the shitload of logos and credits and hype cluttering up that gorgeous artwork.

    Simple but with great execution.

Could have been neat to have the bloodstains play with the light running through the ring, but that's not really an important thing one way or another.

  4. I love this cover but i'm not sure whats going on with the ring. I would think theres nothing around the lantern symbol but theres blood there as if its floating or on glass. Is that a mistake or is there supposed to be something there?

  5. Seconded on the logos and massive cover blurb. Obviously not your decision. Cover otherwise is fantastic. One question: Is that a distorted fingerprint on the inside band of the ring? Looks great either way.

  6. I have no problem with the cover other than the quote but someone has already mentioned that. My only problem is you said, "I came up with idea" you've missed out the word an. I know that is more of a mistake than a choice but I thought I should let you know.

PS. The cover for Febuary's Green Lantern Corps #6 has to get a mention on that week's fails.

  7. That's a great, evocative cover with horrible, horrible, horrible logo, credit, and blurb placement.

  8. I was upset because this was false advertising. Green lantern is still alive. Damn you D.C. Comics.
